PhD student runs a workshop in Malawi on data analysis using mWater

May 3, 2018

Last week, PhD student Donald Robertson attended a two day orientation workshop in Lilongwe, Malawi to help orientate new partner organisations with the Climate Justice Fund: Water Futures Programme. The workshop was designed to help orientate the NGO partners United Purpose and World Vision in the use of mWater, a tool being used to conduct water point mapping across Malawi. Donald was able to share with the group his experience in using mWater for data analysis and the great potential it has to inform future investment within the WASH sector in Malawi.

Donald presented some results from the first round of mapping which was completed in early 2018 covering the southern 8 districts in Malawi. He was also able to show how the Scottish Government funded work can have added value across the sector for all stakeholders, not least towards his PhD research.

Donald is continuing to engage with various stakeholders, including national government while in Malawi. He is currently based at the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development before he returns to Scotland to continue his research at the University of Strathclyde.
